SEVILLE, Spain, September 29, 2026: Lamine Yamal needed barely more than a minute to tell Croatia what kind of night awaited them.

By full time, the 19-year-old world champion had scored twice, created another goal and helped Spain turn a rematch of the 2023 UEFA Nations League final into a 4-1 demonstration of how quickly the balance of European international soccer has shifted.

Spain’s second consecutive victory gives them six points from six in League A Group 3. England recovered from their opening defeat by beating 10-man Czechia 2-0. Switzerland demolished Scotland 3-0 to remain perfect in League B. Albania, Slovakia and Iceland also strengthened their promotion pushes as an unusually compressed Nations League opening window produced its first meaningful separation between contenders and teams already under pressure.

Tuesday’s 10 matches completed Matchday 2 of the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League.

THE BIG PICTURE

UEFA Nations League Matchday 2: All 26 Results

Matchday 2 was spread across September 27, 28 and 29. These are all completed results from the round.

Lamine Yamal Turns Spain-Croatia Into His Own Stage

Croatia had already won away from home in Matchday 1.

What Does Spain’s 4-1 Win Mean for Group A3?

The top two teams in every League A group advance to the Nations League quarterfinals.

England Recover, but Czechia’s Red Card Changes the Test

England needed points after losing 3-2 to Spain at Wembley.

Switzerland Look Ready to Leave League B Immediately

Switzerland were relegated from League A in the previous Nations League cycle.

The larger picture now stretches well beyond Spain.

France, Greece, Spain and Portugal have all opened League A with two wins. Switzerland, Austria and Sweden have done the same in League B. Albania, Montenegro and Slovakia have maximum points in League C.

Ten teams therefore emerge from the opening two rounds with perfect records.

Others are already chasing.

Germany have one point under Jürgen Klopp. Scotland have one. Czechia, Serbia, Wales, Türkiye, North Macedonia, Israel and Romania have none. Croatia have gone from an opening win in Prague to conceding four in Seville. Finland scored seven in their first game and then failed to find one against Belarus.

The Sports Encounter’s opening Nations League guide identified Spain-England, Switzerland’s League B reset and the Finland-Albania promotion battle as some of the most consequential early storylines. Two rounds later, each has already changed shape.

UEFA’s official fixture and results list confirms that the league phase continues through November 17, but Matchday 3 begins almost immediately on October 1.

Lamine Yamal Turns Spain-Croatia Into His Own Stage

Croatia had already won away from home in Matchday 1.

They had beaten Czechia 2-1, Luka Modrić had again demonstrated that age had not removed his ability to control an international midfield, and the trip to Seville offered a genuine early test of whether Croatia could challenge Spain for Group A3.

Seventy seconds changed the tone.

Spain put together a long opening sequence before Yamal finished the move to make it 1-0.

Dion Drena Beljo equalized for Croatia in the 28th minute, briefly giving Zlatko Dalić’s side a route back into the contest.

Spain needed only three minutes to take it away.

Yamal created Marc Pubill’s goal for 2-1, then scored again himself after the break. Substitute Nico Williams completed the 4-1 victory late on.

Two goals. One assist. Six points for Spain.

It was another reminder of why TSE described Yamal’s World Cup campaign as the moment he moved from celebrated teenager to world champion capable of bending elite matches.

The context around Spain also matters.

The federation recently secured Luis de la Fuente through 2032, a decision TSE examined when Spain committed its long-term future to the coach who delivered European, Nations League and World Cup success.

What Spain are showing now is continuity without complacency.

They came from behind to win 3-2 at Wembley in their opener. They then answered Croatia’s equalizer almost immediately and scored three unanswered goals.

Seven goals in two matches give Spain the most productive attack in League A after Matchday 2.

What Does Spain’s 4-1 Win Mean for Group A3?

The top two teams in every League A group advance to the Nations League quarterfinals.

Spain already have a three-point advantage over both England and Croatia.

Czechia have lost twice.

The next round therefore carries an unusually important Croatia-England meeting. One of those teams can establish itself as Spain’s primary challenger, while another defeat could turn a six-match group into a serious recovery job.

Spain host Czechia in the other Group A3 fixture.

La Roja’s broader rise was already visible when they eliminated France on their way to the World Cup title, a match TSE covered in Spain’s commanding World Cup semifinal victory.

What looked like tournament form then increasingly looks like a sustained international standard.

England Recover, but Czechia’s Red Card Changes the Test

England needed points after losing 3-2 to Spain at Wembley.

They found them in Prague.

Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane scored in a 2-0 victory over Czechia, with Trent Alexander-Arnold involved prominently and supplying Gordon.

The context cannot be ignored.

Pavel Šulc was sent off in the 25th minute, forcing Czechia to play most of the contest with 10 men.

That gave Thomas Tuchel’s team a numerical advantage they were expected to exploit.

They did.

The more useful judgment will come next.

England travel to Croatia on October 3 knowing both teams have three points. Spain are already three clear of each.

A victory in Croatia would move England into a strong quarterfinal position. A defeat would reverse much of the value gained in Prague.

England’s squad entered this Nations League campaign carrying substantial tournament experience after finishing third at the World Cup, where Bukayo Saka’s hat trick helped them win an extraordinary 6-4 bronze-medal game against France.

The talent is not the question.

The Nations League is testing whether Tuchel can make the structure as reliable as the individuals.

Switzerland Look Ready to Leave League B Immediately

Switzerland were relegated from League A in the previous Nations League cycle.

Two games into this one, they look determined to make the stay below the top tier as short as possible.

They beat North Macedonia 3-0 in their opener.

Then they went to Hampden Park and beat Scotland by exactly the same score.

Six points. Six goals. None conceded.

Jack Hendry’s early red card put Scotland in a difficult position, and Ricardo Rodríguez punished them with the opening goal. Nico Elvedi added the second before Zeki Amdouni scored his second goal of the campaign to make it 3-0.

Amdouni had struck twice against North Macedonia on Matchday 1 and is quickly becoming one of the most important attacking players in the group.

Switzerland’s confidence should not be surprising.

Only a few months ago, Gregor Kobel was at the center of one of their biggest World Cup nights when his shootout performance helped Switzerland eliminate Colombia and reach the quarterfinals.

The problem for Scotland is much different.

They have one point and no goals from two Nations League matches.

The optimism that accompanied their first World Cup victory in 36 years, when John McGinn beat Haiti in a result TSE covered from Scotland’s emotional return to the global stage, has been replaced by another transition.

Switzerland now lead Group B1 by two points over Slovenia.

Slovenia Give Switzerland Their First Real Challenger

Slovenia followed their 0-0 opening draw with Scotland by beating North Macedonia 2-0.

Sandi Lovrić broke the deadlock in the 55th minute before substitute Aljoša Matko added the second in the 82nd.

The result gives Slovenia four points without conceding a goal.

That makes the next match particularly important.

Switzerland host Slovenia on October 3.

A Swiss victory would create a five-point advantage after only three games. A Slovenian win would move them above Switzerland.

North Macedonia, meanwhile, have begun life after promotion with two defeats, no goals scored and five conceded.

Finland Score Seven, Then None, and Albania Take Advantage

Few teams produced a more dramatic contrast between their first two matches than Finland.

Joel Pohjanpalo scored a hat trick as they beat San Marino 7-0 on Matchday 1.

Against Belarus, Finland could not score at all.

The 0-0 draw leaves Finland unbeaten and yet moves them behind Albania.

Albania followed their 2-0 opening win over Belarus with a 3-0 victory in San Marino.

Anis Mehmeti, Myrto Uzuni and Rey Manaj scored the goals.

Albania therefore have six points, five goals scored and none conceded.

Finland have four points and have also yet to concede.

That makes their October 3 meeting in Helsinki one of Matchday 3’s most consequential League C games.

Slovakia Take Command of Group C3

Slovakia are another League C team with maximum points.

They beat Moldova 2-0 in their opener and followed it with a 2-1 victory over Kazakhstan.

Leo Sauer put Slovakia ahead before Ramazan Karimov equalized for Kazakhstan.

The match remained level until Dávid Hancko scored in the 82nd minute.

Slovakia now have six points.

Nobody else in Group C3 has more than two.

The Faroe Islands drew again, this time 1-1 in Moldova. Viljormur Davidsen put the Faroes ahead before Sergiu Perciun equalized.

Two draws leave the Faroe Islands second on two points, while Kazakhstan and Moldova have one each.

Slovakia have not mathematically secured anything, but after two rounds the promotion race already has a clear favorite.

Iceland Turn Group C4 Upside Down

Luxembourg began Matchday 2 on top after winning 2-1 in Bulgaria.

Iceland left Luxembourg with the lead instead.

Andri Guðjohnsen scored after 13 minutes, Orri Óskarsson doubled the advantage before halftime and Victor Pálsson completed a 3-0 away victory.

Iceland now have four points.

Luxembourg have three, Estonia two and Bulgaria one.

It is one of the most compact groups in the competition.

Bulgaria and Estonia’s 0-0 draw ensured nobody disappeared from the race, but it also meant neither could capitalize fully on Luxembourg’s defeat.

France, Greece and Portugal Have Already Changed the League A Picture

Tuesday provided the most spectacular League A score of Matchday 2, but the previous two nights produced results with equally important consequences.

France won 1-0 in Belgium through Michael Olise’s late goal and have six points from two matches under Zinedine Zidane.

Italy recovered from their opening home defeat by Belgium with a 4-1 win in Türkiye.

That leaves France on six, Belgium and Italy on three and Türkiye on zero in Group A1.

Group A2 contains perhaps the largest early surprise.

Greece followed a 2-1 victory in Serbia by beating Germany 1-0.

Germany therefore have only one point from Jürgen Klopp’s first two competitive matches, while Greece have six.

The Netherlands sit second on four after beating Serbia 2-1.

Group A4 belongs to Portugal for now.

The defending Nations League champions won 2-1 in Norway after João Félix scored again and Gonçalo Ramos answered Erling Haaland’s equalizer almost immediately.

TSE’s full analysis of that round explained why Portugal’s ability to win in Oslo without Cristiano Ronaldo starting may matter beyond the three points.

Portugal have six points. Norway and Denmark have three. Wales have none.

Austria and Sweden Are Setting the Standard in League B

Switzerland are not the only League B side with a perfect record.

Austria have scored three goals in both matches, beating Israel 3-1 and Kosovo 3-1.

They lead Group B3 with six points.

Kosovo and the Republic of Ireland have three each, although Kosovo currently rank above Ireland after beating them on Matchday 1.

Sweden have been equally convincing in Group B4.

They beat Romania 2-1 and Poland 3-1 to reach six points.

Bosnia and Herzegovina are two points behind after following a goalless draw in Poland with a 4-2 victory in Romania.

Group B2 is completely different.

Northern Ireland and Ukraine have four points each. Georgia and Hungary have one each.

Only two goals have been scored in the group’s first four matches.

Sometimes early Nations League tables are shaped by attacking explosions.

Group B2 is being shaped by the inability of anybody to concede.

League D contains three-team groups, so nations do not necessarily have the same number of matches played at each stage of the schedule.

Who Were the Biggest Winners of Nations League Matchday 2?

Spain

Six points matter.

The manner of the two victories matters more.

Spain beat England at Wembley after trailing and then scored four against Croatia. Yamal is producing decisive moments while the larger structure remains stable.

Switzerland

No other team in League B has combined results and control more convincingly.

Two 3-0 wins give Switzerland a six-goal advantage over Scotland after only two rounds and place them two points clear of Slovenia.

Greece

Winning in Serbia was significant.

Beating Germany made the start impossible to dismiss.

Greece have six points in a group containing Germany and the Netherlands.

Albania

Five goals scored, none conceded and six points put Albania above Finland before the teams meet directly.

Slovakia

A five-point advantage over third place after two matches gives Slovakia the most commanding early position in League C Group 3.

Portugal

The defending champions won in Norway despite leaving Cristiano Ronaldo out of the starting lineup.

That is not only a table result. It is evidence of tactical options.

Who Is Already Under Serious Pressure?

Germany

One point from two matches is an uncomfortable start under Klopp.

More importantly, Greece are already five points ahead.

Germany still have four matches and plenty of quality, but they have reduced their margin for experimentation almost immediately.

Czechia

Two defeats leave Czechia bottom of the group with Spain, England and Croatia.

The next trip is to Spain.

Nothing is mathematically over, but the schedule has become brutal.

Scotland

Scotland have not scored.

They are five points behind Switzerland and three behind Slovenia.

The trip to North Macedonia is already beginning to resemble a game they cannot afford to waste.

North Macedonia

Promotion into League B has been followed by defeats of 3-0 and 2-0.

The problem is not merely zero points. North Macedonia have yet to score.

Wales

Two defeats and no goals place Wales bottom of A4.

Portugal are already six points ahead.

San Marino

After the historic progress made in the previous Nations League campaign, the jump into League C has exposed the scale of the next challenge.

Finland and Albania have scored 10 unanswered goals against them.

What Does the Nations League Format Mean From Here?

UEFA’s competition guide confirms that every League A group winner and runner-up advances to the quarterfinals.

That makes second place almost as important as first in League A.

Spain’s six points are valuable, but England and Croatia remain directly in the quarterfinal fight.

League B and League C group winners are chasing promotion as well as the prestige of winning their section.

That is why Switzerland’s six-point start is more consequential than a normal international winning streak. The same applies to Austria, Sweden, Albania, Montenegro and Slovakia.

The competition’s compressed calendar adds another complication.

There is almost no recovery time.

Matchday 3 begins October 1.

Which Nations League Matchday 3 Games Matter Most?

Greece vs Netherlands

Greece can create a five-point lead over the Netherlands with a victory.

The Dutch can cut the gap to one.

Denmark vs Portugal

Portugal can move to nine points and deepen their control of A4.

Denmark can pull level with the defending champions.

France vs Italy

France can make it nine points from nine.

Italy need another result after repairing the damage of their opening defeat.

Croatia vs England

Both have three points.

This is effectively an early contest for second place behind Spain.

Switzerland vs Slovenia

First against second in B1.

Switzerland can create major separation or Slovenia can take over the group.

Finland vs Albania

The two unbeaten C1 teams meet directly.

Albania have six points. Finland have four.

This may become one of the decisive fixtures in the promotion race.

Why Matchday 2 Has Already Made the Nations League More Interesting

International league tables can look insignificant after two rounds.

This one does not.

Spain, France, Portugal and Greece have all created early advantages in League A.

Germany are already chasing. England and Croatia are about to play a match with immediate quarterfinal consequences. Switzerland have built a near-perfect opening in League B. Albania and Finland are heading directly toward each other. Slovakia have separated themselves from their entire group.

The calendar amplifies every development because the next answers arrive within days rather than months.

Spain’s performance provides the most dramatic image of Matchday 2.

The more important story is how many groups now contain a real hierarchy.

Yamal gave Spain the highlights.

The table gave the rest of Europe the warning.
