AR RASS, Saudi Arabia, October 9, 2026: Al Qadsiah sent five different scorers onto the scoresheet, demolished Al Kholood 5-0 and moved provisionally to the top of the Saudi Pro League on Friday, October 9, as Matchweek 8 opened with two emphatic away victories. Tijjani Reijnders struck after only four minutes before Christopher Bonsu Baah, Musab Al-Juwayr, Mateo Retegui and Julián Quiñones joined the scoring. In Al Ahsa, Francisco Trincão produced a double as Al Ahli swept aside Al Fateh 4-0, with Ivan Toney and Ziyad Al-Johani completing a nine-goal statement from two clubs determined to challenge at the top.

The timing made these victories particularly valuable. Al Qadsiah began the round three points behind leaders Al Hilal and ended their afternoon on 19 points, while Al Ahli climbed to 15 ahead of an important meeting with Al Nassr. Brendan Rodgers’ Al Qadsiah side settled their contest with three first-half goals and showed an attacking balance that had been missing during their recent 3-3 draw with Al Ettifaq. Al Ahli were equally convincing, generating 17 shots and allowing Al Fateh only one attempt on target. Together, the two winning teams scored nine goals from 37 attempts and conceded none, placing immediate pressure on their title rivals before the remainder of the round.

Both matches were played on Friday, October 9. Al Kholood hosted Al Qadsiah at Al Hazem Club Stadium in Ar Rass, while Al Fateh faced Al Ahli at Maydan Tamweel Aloula, also known as Prince Abdullah bin Jalawi Stadium, in Al Ahsa.

The two results have different implications. Al Qadsiah have strengthened an already convincing title challenge, while Al Ahli have recovered important ground after an inconsistent start. At the other end, Al Fateh remain on three points after eight games, and Al Kholood must respond to a defeat that exposed substantial defensive weaknesses.

Saudi Pro League October 9, 2026: Results and Goalscorers

Both matches were played on Friday, October 9. Al Kholood hosted Al Qadsiah at Al Hazem Club Stadium in Ar Rass, while Al Fateh faced Al Ahli at Maydan Tamweel Aloula, also known as Prince Abdullah bin Jalawi Stadium, in Al Ahsa.

Five Al Qadsiah Players Score as Brendan Rodgers’ Attack Tears Through Al Kholood

Al Qadsiah could scarcely have designed a more effective beginning to their eighth league match.

Why Al Qadsiah’s Five-Goal Victory Matters After Their Al Ettifaq Collapse

The result was particularly timely because Al Qadsiah’s previous league outing had raised questions about their ability to defend an advantage.

Trincão Scores Twice as Al Ahli Take Al Fateh Apart

Al Ahli’s 4-0 victory in Al Ahsa offered an equally powerful statement, although the scoring was concentrated more heavily around one player.

Francisco Trincão and Ivan Toney Are Developing Into Al Ahli’s Most Dangerous Combination

Trincão’s two goals against Al Fateh strengthened a partnership that has already produced some of Al Ahli’s best attacking performances this season.

Five Al Qadsiah Players Score as Brendan Rodgers’ Attack Tears Through Al Kholood

Al Qadsiah could scarcely have designed a more effective beginning to their eighth league match.

Only four minutes had elapsed when Mateo Retegui created the opening goal for Tijjani Reijnders. The Dutch midfielder finished the move to give the visitors immediate control, extending an impressive run of scoring contributions since his summer arrival from Manchester City.

There was no lengthy period of resistance from Al Kholood.

Nine minutes later, Julián Quiñones supplied Christopher Bonsu Baah, who doubled the advantage in the 13th minute. With two goals inside the opening quarter-hour, Al Qadsiah could establish their preferred attacking rhythm while forcing Al Kholood to chase the match.

Musab Al-Juwayr added the third in the 40th minute, benefiting from an assist by Mohammed Abu Al-Shamat.

The first-half pattern was decisive. Three different players scored, and three others supplied the assists. Al Kholood’s defenders faced threats from several attacking positions, making it difficult to concentrate their marking on Retegui or Quiñones alone.

The home side reached halftime trailing 3-0.

Al Qadsiah were already in a position to manage the second half without taking unnecessary risks, but they continued creating chances.

Mateo Retegui and Julián Quiñones Complete the Rout

Retegui added the fourth goal in the 67th minute, with Quiñones collecting his second assist of the afternoon.

It was a particularly productive contribution from the Mexican international. Quiñones had already created Bonsu Baah’s goal, and his involvement in Retegui’s finish showed how effectively he could operate as a provider when another attacker occupied the finishing position.

He eventually added his own name to the scoresheet, converting an 86th-minute penalty to complete the 5-0 victory.

The final goal gave Al Qadsiah five different scorers: Reijnders, Bonsu Baah, Al-Juwayr, Retegui and Quiñones.

That distribution explains why this result carries greater significance than a routine victory over a struggling opponent. Al Qadsiah possess multiple reliable attacking routes, supported by players capable of both creating and converting chances.

They finished with 20 shots, nine on target and approximately 61 percent possession. Al Kholood attempted 14 shots and put four on target, but could not make any of those opportunities count.

Al Qadsiah also secured a clean sheet, a valuable response to the defensive lapses that had cost them points earlier in the season.

Why Al Qadsiah’s Five-Goal Victory Matters After Their Al Ettifaq Collapse

The result was particularly timely because Al Qadsiah’s previous league outing had raised questions about their ability to defend an advantage.

Against Al Ettifaq on September 11, Rodgers’ team led 2-0 and later 3-2, only to concede an 85th-minute equalizer in a 3-3 draw.

As TSE’s examination of Al Qadsiah’s two surrendered leads explained, their attacking quality was already sufficient to win difficult matches. The problem was preserving control after taking the lead.

Friday’s victory offered a more reassuring answer.

Al Qadsiah established a three-goal advantage before halftime, defended without conceding and continued to extend their lead rather than allowing the game to become unsettled.

The opposition and match conditions were different, so one clean sheet cannot prove that every defensive issue has disappeared. Nevertheless, the improvement in game management was measurable.

Al Qadsiah scored five times while allowing only four shots on target.

The performance also fits into a longer pattern of growing attacking confidence.

In August, Reijnders scored his first Saudi Pro League goal in a 2-0 victory over NEOM. Our report on Reijnders’ first league start examined how quickly the Dutch international began influencing Al Qadsiah’s midfield.

He subsequently scored twice in the 3-2 victory over Al Ahli, while Abu Al-Shamat also found the net. That match, covered in TSE’s analysis of the Reijnders-inspired victory over Al Ahli, established how dangerous Al Qadsiah could be against direct title rivals.

There was also the 2-0 away win over Diriyah, when Retegui and Quiñones scored seven minutes apart in the second half. Our Diriyah vs Al Qadsiah match report highlighted how the attacking partnership could change a closely contested match in a short period.

The Al Kholood victory extends that attacking depth. Reijnders, Retegui and Quiñones remain influential, while Bonsu Baah and Al-Juwayr have demonstrated that the finishing responsibility can be shared.

Trincão Scores Twice as Al Ahli Take Al Fateh Apart

Al Ahli’s 4-0 victory in Al Ahsa offered an equally powerful statement, although the scoring was concentrated more heavily around one player.

Francisco Trincão opened the scoring in the 31st minute, giving the visitors the advantage after a first half in which they increasingly controlled possession and dictated where the game was played.

Al Fateh needed a response after halftime.

Instead, Trincão struck again in the 50th minute, doubling Al Ahli’s advantage and making the home side’s task substantially more difficult.

His second goal was the decisive turning point in the contest. Al Fateh were now required to chase two goals against a side capable of retaining the ball, creating chances and attacking the spaces left behind.

Ivan Toney extended the lead in the 60th minute after receiving an assist from Eduard Spertsyan.

Ziyad Al-Johani completed the scoring in the 89th minute.

Al Ahli had four goals, a clean sheet and three points. Their superiority was also evident in the underlying match statistics.

Why Al Ahli’s Numbers Make the Victory More Convincing

Al Ahli controlled approximately 62 percent of possession and attempted 17 shots, 10 of which were on target.

Al Fateh managed only five attempts, with one on target.

Those figures describe a game in which the visitors controlled both the ball and the quality of attacking opportunities. Al Fateh rarely tested goalkeeper Abdulrahman Al Sanbi, while Al Ahli consistently reached positions from which they could threaten the home goal.

The visitors also completed 390 accurate passes from 453 attempts, compared with 223 from 272 for Al Fateh.

That difference in passing volume and accuracy supports the wider picture of territorial control.

Al Ahli maintained possession effectively enough to keep pressure on their opponents, yet still generated the direct attacking threat needed to turn control into goals.

Trincão’s double provided the breakthrough, Toney delivered another important contribution as the central striker, and Al-Johani added a late finish.

For manager Marino Pušić, the result offered encouraging evidence that his side can dominate opponents while remaining defensively secure.

Francisco Trincão and Ivan Toney Are Developing Into Al Ahli’s Most Dangerous Combination

Trincão’s two goals against Al Fateh strengthened a partnership that has already produced some of Al Ahli’s best attacking performances this season.

The Portuguese international provides movement, ball progression and a willingness to attack defenders, while Toney offers a more traditional penalty-area presence and finishing threat.

Their individual qualities create different problems for opposing defenses.

When Trincão attracts attention between defensive lines, Toney can exploit space nearer the penalty area. When defenders concentrate on the striker, Trincão has opportunities to attack from wider or deeper positions.

The relationship does not guarantee success against stronger opponents, but its influence has become increasingly apparent.

Al Ahli previously defeated Al Riyadh 5-0, with Toney scoring twice and Trincão also finding the net. The club’s official account of that five-goal victory documented another occasion when both players played important attacking roles.

The pair were influential again when Al Ahli recovered from an early setback to beat Al Hazem 3-1. Toney scored twice in that match, which TSE analyzed in our report on Al Ahli’s comeback against Al Hazem.

Friday’s display reinforced a familiar strength: when Trincão and Toney both influence a match, Al Ahli become extremely difficult to contain.

But there is still an important test ahead.

The side has produced several convincing victories without maintaining the consistency required to stay alongside the early leaders every week.

Al Ahli’s five-goal win over Al Riyadh, examined in TSE’s Matchweek 5 analysis, demonstrated their attacking potential. Their subsequent defeat to Al Qadsiah showed how quickly that momentum could be interrupted against high-quality opposition.

The next league match will provide another demanding examination.

What Has Gone Wrong for Al Fateh After Eight Saudi Pro League Matches?

Al Fateh’s problems are becoming increasingly difficult to explain away as an unfortunate run of results.

After eight rounds, they have collected only three points and remain without a league victory.

Friday’s 4-0 defeat exposed two recurring problems: limited attacking production and an inability to prevent opponents from controlling decisive phases.

Against Al Ahli, the home side generated only five shots and placed one on target.

They also surrendered 62 percent of possession, forcing themselves to defend for long periods against a technically accomplished visiting team.

The result followed an already difficult beginning to the campaign.

Against Al Faisaly in August, Al Fateh drew 1-1 despite playing more than half an hour against 10 opponents. As documented in TSE’s report on their failure to capitalize against Al Faisaly, they had opportunities to secure a first league victory but could not convert their advantage.

They later lost 2-1 at home to newly promoted Diriyah, with Darwin Núñez and Adil Boulbina punishing defensive lapses. Our analysis of that defeat highlighted the difference between Al Fateh’s possession and the visitors’ superior finishing.

The Al Ahli defeat brought the problems into sharper focus.

Al Fateh struggled to create opportunities, failed to maintain defensive resistance and finished four goals behind a side that had already demonstrated its ability to punish weak opposition.

The fixture list offers no immediate guarantee of relief.

Al Fateh next travel to Al Hazem on October 15, another match in which collecting points will be important to their attempt to escape the bottom positions.

Al Kholood’s 5-0 Defeat Exposes a Different Kind of Problem

Al Kholood’s result was equally damaging, although the statistical picture differs from Al Fateh’s.

Against Al Qadsiah, Al Kholood attempted 14 shots and managed four on target.

Those figures suggest the hosts were capable of reaching attacking positions. Their problem was converting those openings while preventing a more clinical opponent from doing the same.

Al Qadsiah finished with 20 shots and nine on target, scoring five times.

The visitors required only 13 minutes to establish a two-goal lead and had effectively decided the contest before halftime.

Al Kholood’s attacking efforts were therefore made under increasingly unfavorable conditions, with their opponents already able to control the pace and exploit the space created by the need to recover.

The result represents a significant setback for a team that had entered the round with 12 points from its first seven fixtures.

Unlike Al Fateh, Al Kholood had previously accumulated a respectable points total. The concern is whether the heavy defeat exposes problems that stronger opponents can continue exploiting.

Their next fixture is scheduled away to Al Faisaly on October 15, according to the Saudi Pro League’s official club fixture listing.

That match will offer an immediate opportunity to restore defensive organization and prevent one heavy defeat from becoming a longer downturn.

What Do Nine Goals Without Reply Reveal About the Saudi Pro League Title Race?

The most revealing statistic from Friday is the combined dominance of the two visiting teams.

Al Qadsiah and Al Ahli attempted 37 shots, placing 19 on target and scoring nine times.

Their opponents attempted 19 shots combined but managed only five on target.

The results illustrate the advantage enjoyed by teams capable of maintaining attacking pressure while restricting the quality of chances at the other end.

Goals54
Goals conceded00
Total shots2017
Shots on target910
Possession61%62%
Opposition shots on target41
Points after victory1915

There are also important differences between the victories.

Al Qadsiah’s five goals came from five individual scorers, demonstrating how the attacking burden can be shared among midfielders, wide players and forwards.

Al Ahli relied more heavily on Trincão to establish their advantage before Toney and Al-Johani extended it.

Both approaches were successful on Friday.

The question for the coming weeks is which team can reproduce its attacking quality against opponents capable of keeping possession, applying defensive pressure and creating their own sustained opportunities.

How Far Have Al Qadsiah and Al Ahli Moved Up the Table?

Al Qadsiah began Matchweek 8 on 16 points and added three through their victory over Al Kholood.

The result took them to 19 points, provisionally ahead of Al Hilal, who entered the round on 18.

Al Ahli moved from 12 to 15 points and climbed to fifth in the live standings after beating Al Fateh.

These are provisional positions because the remaining Matchweek 8 fixtures can change the order.

For Al Qadsiah, however, the points are real. Seven wins are not necessary to reach this position; their current record includes six victories, one draw and one defeat from eight games.

The result leaves them with 19 points and a meaningful place in the early championship contest.

The Saudi Pro League’s official 2026-27 fixture announcement placed Al Qadsiah and Al Ahli among the five strongest clubs in its scheduling model, alongside Al Nassr, Al Hilal and Al Ittihad.

Friday’s performances gave both teams another opportunity to justify those expectations.

Al Hilal vs Al Ittihad and Al Ahli vs Al Nassr: The Fixtures That Could Reshape the Race

Al Qadsiah’s move to the provisional summit adds significance to the remaining fixtures of Matchweek 8.

Al Hilal entered the round on 18 points, with Al Ittihad immediately behind on 17. Their meeting on Saturday, October 10, could change the top of the standings again.

Al Nassr also remain directly involved in the title race and face Diriyah during Friday’s later program.

The most consequential fixture for Al Ahli comes next Thursday, October 15, when they host Al Nassr.

It will provide a much more demanding examination of Al Ahli’s attacking improvement than the victory over Al Fateh.

Trincão and Toney have shown they can punish vulnerable defenses. Against Al Nassr, their effectiveness will be tested in a contest with more direct consequences for the championship positions.

Al Qadsiah, meanwhile, host Abha on October 16.

The fixture offers Rodgers’ side an opportunity to maintain its momentum, although Friday’s large winning margin should not encourage complacency. Their earlier 3-3 draw with Al Ettifaq demonstrated how quickly control can disappear when defensive concentration drops.

What Should Saudi Pro League Fans Watch After Friday’s Nine-Goal Statement?

Three developments deserve particularly close attention during the next round of matches.

Al Qadsiah’s attacking depth: Five different scorers offer evidence that the team can produce goals without depending exclusively on Retegui or Quiñones. The next challenge is maintaining that variety when opponents defend more effectively.

Al Ahli’s response against elite opposition: Trincão’s double and Toney’s contribution have strengthened confidence, but the Al Nassr fixture will reveal more about the team’s ability to compete with direct championship rivals.

The reaction of Al Kholood and Al Fateh: Both clubs conceded heavily, but their problems are different. Al Kholood created opportunities without scoring, while Al Fateh struggled to generate threatening attacks at all. Their next games will help establish whether these defeats were isolated setbacks or signs of deeper weaknesses.

The remainder of Matchweek 8 may rearrange the standings, particularly with Al Hilal and Al Ittihad meeting on Saturday.

For now, Al Qadsiah have given their rivals a scoreline that is difficult to ignore, and Al Ahli have responded with four goals of their own.

Nine goals, two away victories, two clean sheets and three points apiece. Friday did not settle the Saudi Pro League title race, but it gave the clubs above and around them plenty to think about.
